St. Patrick – St. Anthony Parish and the House of Bread have been helping one another since the friars came to Hartford over 30 years ago. Over time, the outreach has brought many dispossessed people not only to the doors of the House of Bread, but also to the doors of the Franciscan Center for Urban Ministry. The wants (food, clothing, shelter) are similar and the desire to aid our sisters and brothers in need is the same – to offer dignity to those who seek our help.
It is fitting that one of the activities during the upcoming celebration weekend is a Clothing Drive for these two entities – the House of Bread and the Franciscan Center.
This year, the friars are seeking help from the St. Patrick – St. Anthony parish community to stock up on clothing supplies for their mission to assist the Day Shelter at the House of Bread and to meet the needs at the Franciscan Center.
By supporting this drive, YOU can be a sunbeam for those in need and honor the friars’ long-standing commitment to aid the homeless in Hartford.
How can you help?
You can help by supporting the Clothing Drive on Sunday, October 2 from 8:30 am to noon and at the picnic. You are invited to donate by simply picking from the three items listed.
- Men’s t-shirts: Large and X-Large – new and slightly used
- Men’s boxers: Large and X-Large
- Socks
Parish volunteers and Confirmation students will be curbside to collect donations. It is our hope the spirit of giving to help those in need continues to be strong within our parish community and together we can support the Hartford community.
Don’t have time to shop? We will also be collecting cash or checks for the Clothing Drive (checks made payable to the Franciscan Center).
Thank you so much for your generosity and willingness to help those in need and in doing so honor the Feast of St. Francis.
